AST (autorisation de sortie du territoire)

French authorisation allowing a minor of French nationality to leave France without their parents. More: Travel document checker

Common Travel Area

Arrangement between the UK and Ireland allowing British and Irish citizens to travel between them without passport controls. More: Travel document checker

Distance calculator

The European Commission’s official tool for calculating travel distance in Erasmus+, which determines the travel support amount. More: Erasmus+ travel and subsistence

EES (Entry/Exit System)

EU system that registers non-EU travellers, such as British citizens, when entering and leaving the Schengen area. More: Travel document checker

EHIC and GHIC

Health insurance cards giving access to necessary state healthcare in EU countries: the EHIC for EU residents, the GHIC for UK residents. More: If something goes wrong

Erasmus+

EU programme supporting learning abroad, including for school pupils and staff. More: Erasmus+ mobility

Erasmus+ accreditation

Accredited schools can apply more easily for funding over several years, based on their own plan. More: Erasmus+ mobility

ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation)

Electronic permission required, in addition to a passport, to travel to the United Kingdom. Children need one too. More: Travel document checker

ETIAS

EU travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors from outside the EU, to be introduced at a later stage. More: Travel document checker

Green travel

Travelling by sustainable means such as train, coach or car-sharing. In Erasmus+, it qualifies for extra support. More: Erasmus+ travel and subsistence

Insolvency protection

Insurance protecting travellers if the tour operator goes bankrupt. Feriados is insured with Amlin. More: Financial protection

Job shadowing

A teacher spends a few days at a school abroad to observe and learn from colleagues. More: Erasmus+ mobility

KA1 (Key Action 1)

The part of Erasmus+ dedicated to the mobility of individuals: pupils and staff going abroad to learn. More: Erasmus+ mobility

Kids-ID

Belgian identity document for children under 12, valid as a travel document within Europe. More: Travel document checker

List of travellers

National agency

Package travel

A combination of at least two travel services, such as transport and accommodation, protected by EU package travel law. More: Terms and conditions

Schengen area

Group of European countries without systematic border checks between them. Ireland and the UK are not part of it. More: Travel document checker
